Observe a video: prepare a question, not copy an authority

Read a viewing angle, identify the version demonstrated and use the image to improve a discussion in the dojo.

Reading: approximately 2 min

Check what the video shows

Look for the name of the form, school, person and date, where indicated. An educational demonstration, a competition and a promotional sequence do not necessarily have the same objective. Without this context, a difference may be mistaken for an error. A well-produced video is not automatically a reference for the club program.

An angle leaves things out of frame

A front view informs certain directions, a side view certain depth relationships. The framing can hide a support or another hand. Slow motion helps to identify a sequence, but it modifies the perception of the real rhythm. The image does not convey all the information experienced with the partner. Multiple views complete the observation without transforming a video into a full measurement of the action.

Choose an observation before watching

First decide if you are looking for a direction, a junction or the moment of a move. Look at a short passage, describe what is visible and distinguish it from your interpretation. “The foot arrives before the hand” is an observation to be verified; “this proves that this school is better” is a much broader conclusion than the image.

Film with agreement and intention

Ask for permission before filming and before broadcasting, especially when a group or children appear. A work sequence can remain a private discussion support. Choose a representative essay, not just one that benefits or embarrasses you. Present the teacher with a short question accompanied by the corresponding passage.

Check understanding

Does a difference with a video necessarily mean an error?

See answer

No. Version, instructions, angle and context must be identified before concluding.
