Heian Yondan

Heian Yondan study sheet: objectives, observations and links with other forms.

Reading: approximately 2 min

What form allows us to study

Arm and leg combinations and organizational changes. Linking preparation, action and new support avoids artificially separating gestures.

An observation point

Choose a height allowing a controlled return; watch the supporting leg. Choose a short sequence and compare two trials with the same criterion. The video is used to prepare a question for the course; the fix belongs to the dojo version.

From combinations to changes of support

Heian Yondan invites you to memorize relationships between techniques rather than a collection of poses. Simultaneous or successive actions of the arms and legs require recognizable preparations. The transfer of support must make the following combination possible. A cross passage deserves to be studied with the gaze and direction of the center. Foot height is not the only criterion for success. Working in small segments allows you to find the rhythm of the form without masking a still uncertain connection.

Make a combination rather than a juxtaposition

A passage associating arm and leg requires maintaining a relationship between the actions. Describe what prepares the leg, what accompanies its journey and what organizes its return. Then return to the passage with an amplitude allowing you to see these moments. For changes of support, the gaze and the center must announce the new direction sufficiently early in the instruction studied. Good memorization of names does not prove that the gestures are related. The comparison of two tests must focus on the transition, and not just on the height reached by the foot.
